Katie Mccullough Talks and Writes

Words will get written here and some videoblogs will appear. You don't have to look but it would be nice if you did.

Regina v Cooper [2010] August 27, 2010

*I realise like a numpty I said I can make more rehearsals than I said at the beginning of the sentence. Before anyone corrects me.

And here are some publicity photographs that the newspaper didn’t end up using but who knows, we might before the big day.

I’ve got some wonderful people involved who also happen to be close friends. It’s exciting times, especially as it’ll reach a wider audience with it being performed smack back in the town centre. When I know the performance times I’ll be sure to holler about it.

Once there was a little girl who decided to get a job in a shop to get some pennies. The pennies soon began to overflow into pounds and the girl was very happy. But then one day someone mentioned the word ‘management’ into her ear and she was blinded by the workbooks and the jangling keys that made her feel like a stationery jailer. The Faustian bargain involved working Saturdays. She thought nothing of it, she cared not for relaxing or spending time doing equal amounts of nothing. So she got her head down and signed the contract (it wasn’t in goats blood, but I’m sure that the fact it was in red ink was because it was politically correct) and then it was done. Seven years of Saturdays. She would weep but she didn’t have the energy to do so. But she would swim along with her sorrows in the tastiest of Gin.

Then she decided it was to be no longer. She would rip the word Saturday out of her contract. And she did. Entwined in her being she’s a little scared that the pounds will soon turn back to pennies and she’ll have torturous days of doing nothing which is not what she’s planned. But she’ll still have the keys to jangle, but more time for the Gin.

In all honesty I haven’t had that much time to think about it and it won’t sink it till after a few weeks because I’m so busy. But I wouldn’t want it any other way.

To, Too, Two August 20, 2010

This following video contains a private joke that if you are privy to you can enjoy. If you are not you can still refer to me as an idiot.

This all stems from this bit of information…….. <insert witty retort here>

This One Was Obvious, C’mon. August 13, 2010

Yes that’s a Stitch in the background. Yes that’s a Mary Poppins in the background. Both favourite Disney characters thankyouverymuch. And the script I’m scrawling on is my site specific piece which has now been finalised, just arranging casting. For the time being it’s been named, “Regina v Partridge [2010]“. More details about that to come soon.

It’s all getting rather scary now. The lack of money, the increase of time. I’m sure they’ll outweigh each other for the positive.

10×10 August 12, 2010

A while back I was asked to be a judge for a playwriting competition overseas in the place called Houston. They run an annual competition where ten 10 minute plays are performed and I’m here to give you the details if you happen to be around those parts. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend because it’s hardly down the road but it was a pleasure to read so many attempts – obviously only the best could go through. Overall I read 76 (at last count) and what an eclectic bunch they were.

All ten plays are running from 26th August till the 29th and by going along not only will you see some great plays but you’ll be supporting all those involved for the 20th year of this competition. Lovely.

Good luck to the performers and the playwrights, may the giddy feeling still linger and get you writing more!

*I realise this isn’t representative of 10mins but I liked the picture, deal with it.

For, Fore, Four! August 6, 2010

I have just four Saturdays to work before I work them no more.

Today’s installment was brought to you via a picnic, facepaints, many many children, new friends who are Wondrous and some good ol’ fashioned tea out of a pot. And sandwiches.

To make up for the lack of video action of myself take a moment to watch/listen to this:

I heavily suggest you buy the deluxe version of this album (Flaws – Bombay Bicycle Club) as you get these videos on there. Shot beautifully and naturalistically they perform the songs in places that mean a lot to them. It’s an acoustic turn of events but luscious none the same. I really wanted to put up the video for Fairytale Lullaby because they sing it as dinner is being laid up on the table around them. They sing each song on the album so well worth it. But don’t read this, go buy!
